Hi there! My name is Claire and I graduated as the Dux of PLC Sydney in 2024. I was ranked first internally for Chemistry and Extension 2 maths, and was consistently in the top 5 students throughout high school. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing…

I remember walking out of my year 11 chemistry depth study exam with the worst feeling in my stomach. I had complete mental blanks for some questions that seemed relatively simple. What would I get? What would my parents say? When the results came back I had just scraped the average 84%. For a validation test, I felt ashamed of getting this mark for material that I should have already consolidated thoroughly. 

See the thing is, I had overestimated myself. I went out with friends, watched too much Netflix and most importantly, let go of the foundations – practice. Having knowledge is half of the equation, but knowing what to expect from the exam is the other half. From then on, I never neglected practicing questions again. I actually used it as one of the best ways to boost my marks all the way through the HSC. “Practice makes perfect” is not just an over-repeated phrase, it’s a formula for success!
