Hey, I’m Jerry Yan, a 2021 James Ruse AHS graduate, with an ATAR of 99.60 and achieving a 95 in both Physics and Chemistry. Transitioning from junior school, the pace of learning in Physics and Chemistry changes – I found myself getting left behind as the content drastically increases both in amount and difficulty.

Exacerbating this was the extra study from all the other subjects of year 12, it became necessary to develop efficient methods of study. By focusing on deeper understanding of fundamental concepts as a sort of initial investment, I found that the information was retained far longer – saving me valuable time when studying for tests.

I will be able to share with you the tips and tricks that I have accrued, whether it be concerning exam technique, offering a holistic explanation or summarising the key points to crafting a high scoring long response 6 or 7 mark HSC questions. In particular, I will explain the “reasons why” behind calculations and concepts which reflects in the depth and detail of your responses and enable you to draw links across topics and integrate concepts when answering advanced questions.

How can I help?

• Commonly at schools, the information is delivered through passive methods which rely on copying down information. In our lessons, I make learning fun, with relatable analogies in my explanations, engaging questions and by asking you to summarise the information back to me in your own words.
• Learn how to adapt information and concepts learnt to different sorts of questions and identify the landmark elements and keywords in the question stem which indicate how to answer them.
• Personalised lessons based on your particular needs and any content that you wish to discuss or help with upcoming tasks such as Working Scientifically exams and  Depth Studies. Constant homework and quizzes including relevant HSC questions, where I will read over your answers, provides both you and me feedback on how you are doing and allows me to adjust lessons to best suit you.
